North of the hype.

A developer-perspective publication on AI engineering and the Canadian AI landscape, anchored to real tools shipped in the open. We are anti-hype and evidence-first: we show the build log, we cite the source, and we lead with a number rather than an adjective.

What we publish

Three things, nothing else:

  • Chronicles — long-form build logs anchored to a real, open-source tool.
  • The Digest — a weekly, five-minute brief on the Canadian AI scene: what shipped, who raised, what's worth a longer read.
  • Tools — the small, MIT-licensed tools the Chronicles build, in the open.

The bar

Every Chronicle is anchored to a tool that actually shipped. No vaporware, no roadmap fiction, no hot-takes without code. We name what's specific — the library, the metric, the config — and we link the primary source so you can check our work.

Who's behind it

The publication is the author. It is curated by an engineering leader in Canadian financial services, and it stays anonymous on purpose — the work should stand on its sourcing, not a byline. For anything substantive, write hello@northofthehype.ai.

Five minutes every Sunday: what shipped, who raised, what the public funding looks like, what's worth a longer read. No promotions, no recycled press releases.
